Hair Loss Treatment using Acupuncture in Toowoomba

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice that through the use of needles on the skin aims to restore the health from symptoms of illness, injury and disease. The practitioner inserts very fine needles into the skin at specific acupuncture points (anatomic points in the body), sometimes using heat, friction, suction or electromagnetic impulses to stimulate the acupuncture points (each of which correspond to specific parts of the body). The stimulation of these acupuncture points frees any blocked energy (qi) within the body, and restores the individual back to true health.

Modern medicine believe acupuncture works by stimulating the nervous system to release certain biochemicals (such as neurotransmitters and hormones) that regulate our bodily functions, immune system and pain threshold. As a result, acupuncture can be an effective hair loss treatment.

What is Hair Loss?

Hair loss, or baldness in its extreme, (alopecia), is the medical term used to describe inexplicable hair loss from the head and body. Permanent hair loss is normally an issue of genetics in which the person has inherited the condition. This is called male pattern baldness, and is not treatable with acupuncture. I wish it was different as I have the condition.

Fortunately, however the underlying causes of temporary hair loss (such as illness, diet deficiencies, stress, hormones and fatigue) may be alleviated using acupuncture.

How the Flow of Energy Affects Hair Loss

Acupuncturists believe that infinite life energy (qi) circulates throughout the body along meridians in defined cycles. All humans who are in a constant energy exchange with the world require this energy, along with energy derived from food and air. The strength of your hair also relies on good nutrition and this life energy, and without it, hair may become brittle and weak, and consequently break off or fall out. Acupuncture ensures a healthy head of hair by reconciling any energy imbalances that may affect the health of your hair.

How Acupuncture Prevents Hair Loss

Many acupuncturists use their practice to treat hair loss and baldness. They usually do so by using the needles in combination with a specialized diet and Chinese herbs.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), hair health is governed by the state and circulation of the blood. TCM also teaches that hair health is governed by:

  • The kidneys, which provide detoxified blood used to nourish the hair of the scalp
  • The lungs, which nourish body hair with moisture and oxygen.
  • The adrenal glands that when overworked (due to stress) may also cause hair loss

When these organs are not running efficiently due to illness or lifestyle, hair may become brittle and damaged, resulting in hair loss. By using needles to stimulate kidney and lung energy, toxicity in the blood is decreased and circulation of the scalp is stimulated. This repairs damaged cells, promotes new cell growth and strengthens hair roots and follicles that both assist with new hair growth.

Accupuncture, Acupunture or Accupunture common misspelling

Note that “Acupuncture” is often misspelt as accupuncture, acupunture or accupunture, that is with either too many c’s or not enough c’s. I would love to be able to clear up this very common spelling mistake, and set the record straight.

Ac·u·punc·ture – pronounced ak-yoo-puhngk-cher; Origin: 1675–85; < Latin acū with a needle (ablative of acus  needle) or acu- (as combining form of acus ) + puncture.
